As the action-packed adventure story that is Acts of the Apostles unfolds, Paul and Barnabas, having just been expelled from Antioch due to persecution, found themselves forced to flee their next stop, Iconium, to foil an attempt by some residents to attack and stone them. It wasn’t that they had not performed signs and wonders in that city by the grace of the Lord or that they had not spoken in such a way that great numbers of both Jews and Greeks began to believe. It was only that disbelieving Jews had poisoned the minds of some Gentiles enough to stir up a violent reaction against the traveling disciples.
