Is there more to life than this?

What is Alpha?

Alpha is a series of sessions that gives people of all faiths and beliefs the opportunity to explore and discuss life, faith, and meaning. It meets once a week for 11 weeks and includes an optional retreat weekend. Sessions usually begin with a meal, followed by a short talk, and time to discuss the topic. Due to Covid-19 we will not be able to share a meal for this Alpha session, but we will still gather to grow in community. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to engage in conversation. Alpha is run all around the globe, and everyone is welcome!

Who is Alplha for?

Alpha is for everyone –no question is out of bounds and you are free to discuss as much or as little as you wish.  We don’t assume any background knowledge or belief in Christianity and everyone is welcome. Whether you are a cradle Catholic, Christian, convert, have a different faith background or no faith background, Alpha gives everyone the opportunity to explore the meaning of life in a relaxed, friendly setting. During the discussion, everyone is welcome to contribute their opinions and no question is considered hostile or too simple. Questions might include - Is there a God? Why am I here? Where did I come from? Where am I going? etc.

What to Expect?

Alpha runs in restaurants, churches, colleges, homes, work places — you name it. No two Alphas look the same, but they generally have three key things in common: community, a talk and good conversation.

First. . . Community!

We usually start with a meal or game because it’s a great way to encourage community and get to know each other. At this time, for the safety of everyone, we will not be sharing a meal for this Alpha session.

Next. . . A Talk or Video!

The talks are designed to engage and inspire conversation. Generally thirty minutes long, they can be given as a live talk or played as a video. They explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions such as "Who is Jesus?" and "How can we have faith?"

Followed by. . .

Probably the most important part of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic, and simply discuss it in a small group. There’s no obligation to say anything. And there’s nothing you can’t say. It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open. environment.
