Grade 4

Focus: Morality - The Ten Commandments and Beatitudes

"This is my commandment: Love one another as I have loved you."
John 15:12

How Do 4th Graders Learn?

Fourth graders have developed a sense of what is right and wrong beyond reward and punishment. They can internalize behaviors and understand the impact their behavior has on others. For this reason, we revisit reconciliation and require all 4th graders to learn more about the reconciliation process.

They also have developed their cognitive and verbal skills so that they may clearly express concerns or thoughts. However, they have not yet developed hypothetical reasoning, so they will not yet be able to understand things they have not yet experienced.

What Do 4th Graders Learn?
As mentioned above, we will take this opportunity to revisit Reconciliation. The students will cover the Ten Commandments in detail, and we will begin to look at the Beatitudes as a means to live our lives according to God's will. We will also cover Reconciliation through Dynamic Catholic's Blessed series.

Prayers to learn:  (all from Pre-school through Third Grade)  Act of Contrition,  The Ten Commandments,  The Beatitudes

Grade Level Information

In Grade 4, we cover the 10 Commandments and Beatitudes. We also cover Reconciliation in Depth. Even if your child has received the Sacrament of Reconciliation, they will participate in our program which will include a 4th Grade Retreat and Sacrament Celebration (if we are allowed to gather for these events due to COVID restrictions).

For the most part, lessons are done chronologically, although we want to make sure the unit on Morality is covered before the Reconciliation Celebration
