In this short letter, John asserts that the only way in which a person can prove that he loves God is by loving his fellow-men and living a life that bears witness to that fact. The main theme is to affirm Jesus as Christ, true God and true Man, in order to deepen the spiritual and social awareness of the Christian Community. The study will focus on the basis of true Christian love, ethics, and faith that are fulfilled only within the revelation and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. 

The difficulties encountered by Christians during this time are by no means echoes of things long ago and far away. They are still bubbling beneath the surface today. This should prove to be a timely and enlightening journey.
